Cambodia’s dream of her first ever Olympic Medal is very much alive as Sorn seavmey Continues to prepare for the Summer games in Korea. Coach Choi Yong Sok speaking to Offside with Ken Gadaffi in an exclusive interview at the NOCC Headquarters revealed that the 2014 Olympic Games Gold Medalist is in advance stage of her training and looking forward to the games.

The Coach who was very excited to see Sorn Seavmey make history when she became the first Cambodian to qualify for the RIO games stated that Sorn Seavmey despite being young has the experience which helped her to make the feat.
“Yeah Sorn Seavmey has many years of experience and has taken part in many competitions which helped her and now she is in good condition” he stated.
According to the Coach, Sorn Seavmey is currently training in Korea where she is undergoing intensive training under the watchful eyes of top Coaches and good facilities
“ Now Sorn Seavmey is training in Korea at the World Taekwondo Training Camp at Sunson University with good players and the training system is good”  “She has been there almost one month now and will continue her training for one more month” the Korean born Coach confirmed.
With less than 60 games to the Olympic Game, the coach believes that Sorn Seavmey is not really yet at the level he would want her to be before the games but she is trying more and more
“Now Sorn Seavmey is not perfect, she has not gotten enough strength and power as required but she just try more and more”
According to the Coach, Sorn Seavmey’s opponent for the Opening Round is not yet certain despite media reports indicating that she would take on the French Opponent in the first round, he noted that Sievmey is currently ranked top 50 in the world and Top 11th among the 16 finalist for the RIO games in the +67kg and hopes that she can get past her opponents in the first round.

“I  am not sure who she will compete with against from the other country, now not sure, but we have looked at the Ranking Chart so we have the ranking 1-16 so maybe she would be fighting against the French Lady in the first round due to the ranking. By the end of June we will have a clear picture of who she would be competing against” he explained
Speaking further about Sorn Seavmey’s chances should she be drawn against the French Bronze medal winner in Beijing 2008, Coach Choi yong Sok Stated that “ if she meets the French Athlete, she is very very experienced and at a high level, She is 32 years old but I think with Sorn Seavmey’s Hard training and well preparations, there would be no problem.”

With the Kingdom’s hope of a medal finish in the RIO Games very much on Sorn Seavmey’s Performance among the 6 athletes representing Cambodia, Coach Choi Yong Sok is being modest and wouldn’t want to raise too much hope “Nobody knows ( Laughs)  there are 16 players participating but Sorn Seavmey Ranking is 11th and there are more players very strong ahead of her But it depends on the draw and  if she can overcome here first 3 opponents then she has a chance to win a medal” the coach enthused.
Sorn Sievemey is expected to return to the Kingdom on July 22nd before the team leaves for RIO on July 28th.
