BANGKOK, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is apparently taking time to decide whether he will contest the March 24 election as top candidate for prime minister.

Prayut told reporters at Government House that he will have time to make such decision until February 8.

His comment followed news reports that Palang Pracharath (power of people's state) Party has resolved to name him as its top candidate for post-election prime minister. The party plans to formally invite him for that on Friday.

"When they invite me, I will have time to decide until February 8," Prayut said, referring to the final day on which the Election Commission has scheduled for all electoral candidates to apply, beginning on February 4.

Prayut said he will look into the policies of various parties which are currently campaigning to become a post-election government before he decides on which party to join.

Four members of his cabinet have recently resigned and are currently steering Palang Pracharath Party's electoral campaign with proclaimed intent to help Prayut retain his prime minister's post after the election.
