HANOI, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), which currently manages 39 hydropower dams across Vietnam, said all of them are absolutely safe.

EVN, Vietnam's biggest electricity producer and sole distributor, said on Friday that it annually submits to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and localities nationwide plans on preventing floods and coping with potential emergencies facing hydroelectricity plants in flood season, including installation of mobile generators in reservoirs and digital surveillance cameras.

EVN made the statement after a big hydropower dam in Laos collapsed, causing severe flooding, and Vietnam's central and northern regions faced some flash floods and landslides recently triggered by Typhoon Son Tinh.

The floods and landslides have claimed 29 human lives, left five people missing, injured 26 others, killed many cattle and poultry, and inundated large areas of crops, according to Vietnam's Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

The natural disasters also damaged 15 km of national roads, seven bridges and other transport works, causing losses of some 11.7 million U.S. dollars to national and provincial roads, the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam said on Friday.
