In cooperation with the Siem Reap and Battambang Chapters of the Cambodian Women Entrepreneur's Association (CWEA) and the Ministry of Women's Affairs of Cambodia (MoWA), a recent study tour to Mongolia aimed to improve trust and cooperation between MoWA and women in business and to exchange experiences with their Mongolian counterparts. During the week-long trip, the delegation met with the Mongolian National Committee on Gender Equality, the Ministry of IT and Digitalization, and the Women Entrepreneurs Council of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meetings provided vital insights into how Mongolia approaches gender equality and designs targeted support measures.

 

The Mongolian partners convincingly explained how the design of context-specific and tailor-made measures is vital to address the needs of women in business. Demonstrated topics included digital and financial literacy, management skills, and challenges related to work-life balance, unpaid care, and domestic work. In designing these measures, it is also vital to utilize gender-disaggregated data to address the root problems facing women in business most effectively. The research and Statistics Department of the Central Bank of Mongolia and the Economic Policy and Competitiveness Center presented to the Cambodian delegation their successful application of such data.

 

The study trip provided relevant actors working on women's economic empowerment in both Cambodia and Mongolia with the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences and learn from each other how to solidify gender equality and economic empowerment better. The study tour served as the starting point of continued cooperation between the organizations from the two countries.
